Improving our General fitness is a broad definition that works towards improvements in our overall health and well-being rather than focusing on bigger muscles or concerns over our aesthetic appearance. A regular, moderate workout regimen and healthy eating plan can improve muscle tone and heart and lung function whilst reducing the risk of serious illness that accompany inactivity and poor eating habits.
As we know improvements in our eating habits will help boost our metabolic rate, a process further enhanced by resistance and cardiovascular training. This results in our bodies performing at an optimal level, both physically and mentally.
Participating in at least 3 x 30 minute cardio sessions per week will assist in burning unwanted body fat and help to strengthen the heart and lungs considerably. Following the simple heart rate training zone guide or using the R.P.E scale will ensure you train safely and effectively no matter what fitness level you are at.
Strength and resistance training with free-weights, cable gyms, resistance tubes or even own bodyweight exercises will allow you to condition and strengthen muscles for more functional day to day activities and assist the efficiency of the metabolic rate for a greater calorie burn off. Once again 3 x 20 minute sessions of resistance training should be incorporated into your exercise regime or try circuit training, which combines both in one workout for a time efficient solution.
