Retail Information and Guide

Having good suppliers or manufacturers warranties on our products is important for our customers and us. It gives you the assurance and confidence to purchase from us and we have the ability to support the product honestly and fairly, if something does go wrong.

At Elite Fitness Equipment Ltd we only work with manufacturers and suppliers that stand by their claims of quality and reliability, and most importantly they warranty the product they supply to us. This means we do not bear the cost of supplying you parts or labour at our cost if something goes wrong.

When purchasing from Elite Fitness Equipment Ltd you can be assured that any assessment for any warranty claim is carried out fairly and independently. Why? The answer is simple, if it’s a genuine warranty issue we claim our parts and labour costs back from our manufacturers and suppliers and if it’s not a warranty issue, we recoup the cost from the customer.

This is a big point of difference between us and every other fitness equipment supplier in New Zealand that we know. All other suppliers and retailers we know operating in New Zeeland selling fitness equipment, wear the cost of the warranties themselves, sometimes this is done as a tradeoff to get better discounts from suppliers, but in general it’s because most manufacturers and suppliers who import into New Zealand don’t offer warranties to their resellers, nor do they do a very good job at supporting the product! This leaves some resellers to absorb these costs and in general the resellers do their best to avoid wearing these warranty costs. Unfortunately they sometimes very unfairly pass these costs on to the customer. These costs are passed on in many ways, but mainly it’s as simple as adding the costs on to the product at point of sale or charging the customer for repairs when they should be covered under warranty. (Not nice but we know it happens).

We don’t and won’t work with organizations, manufacturers or suppliers who have this attitude, approach or system. A manufacturer willing to back their own product has faith in the quality of construction and materials used and the reliability of their equipment.

So what is covered by the warranty?

To put it simply, all fitness equipment sold by Elite Fitness Equipment Ltd carries a limited warranty for retail customers, the warranty is a period of time that Elite Fitness Equipment Limited and the manufacturer guarantees the equipment to be free from defects caused by mistakes in, or made by components used in the manufacturing process or assembly of the product, (materials and workmanship). It’s a limited warranty as generally there are conditions attached to maintain the warranty… The conditions are your responsibility to adhere to. More on this below.

What is not covered by warranty?

Almost every piece of fitness equipment is designed and produced with specific parameters in mind, use outside of those parameters is not recommended as it may cause injury to the person using the equipment, cause damage to the product itself or cause the product to wear out prematurely. The limitations of use may be based on correct use, correct storage, user weight or height restrictions, using it below a number of hours per week, having the product serviced or the customers carrying out specific tasks themselves i.e. User maintenance, lubrication, cleaning etc. If you have purchased equipment from us and are unsure if you are within the parameters of use or have any questions in regards to user maintenance. Call and ask us! Call your local store or service department, we are here to help!

The parameters and conditions to maintain product warranty are explained in more detail below… Adhere to the following and take the advice below and you should have no problems, and if you do have an issue, it will be easy to resolve and establish if it’s a warranty fault or not!

1. The equipment must be used for the purpose intended and within the threshold of what it was designed for.

This is usually outlined in the user manual or by sales staff. For instance if you purchased a treadmill for walking on for two people and subsequently it has been used by four people training for a marathon… The warranty would be void, this is based on the fact we would never have sold it for this use and it’s going to cause severe and excessive wear and tear. For most equipment we can verify the use as the equipment stores the hours of use and Km or Miles completed. But use can be ascertained by wear of common components such as bearings, belts, running belts and decks along with the general appearance of the equipment. Another example would be that the equipment may have a user weight limit of 135kg, use by someone over this weight would void the warranty as it would be deemed dangerous and could potentially break the equipment or cause severe or excessive wear and tear.

2. All products sold by Elite are for in home use only so must be stored indoors.

This is very important, most fitness equipment needs a stable or relatively stable operating temperature, the equipment we sell is not designed to be exposed to extremes of temperature or environment. Extremes of temperature can effect electronics and cause premature failure as can moisture, high humidity and dust etc. All our equipment must be used and stored inside the home. An internal garage which is insulated and clean and powered by the mains electrical supply in the home is fine, but an internal garage which is opened and closed continuously there for full of dust and exposed to weather is not… don’t expect your machine to last very long if kept on the deck, even if covered… where you store it and where you use it can void the warranty and drastically reduce the lifespan of the product. When choosing a place to put your equipment, think, would I leave my laptop their or a new big TV? If not, you probably chose the wrong location.

3. Warranty does not cover any use in a commercial, hire or business application.

Commercial is classed as use within a business. It is fine for an individual to purchase our retail equipment and put it in their office for their own use only. But not for going in to the company gym for employees to use… or as an office share. In this instance light or full commercial equipment is required. If hired out by a purchaser to another user this voids all warranties. Any product used in a business for commercial or for monetary gain voids warranty.

4. Warranty is to the original purchaser only.

All Elite Fitness Equipment warranties are non-transferable. That means the warranty is only applicable if the goods are used by the original user/s for the intended purpose it was purchased for and remains in their possession. If the equipment is used by any other persons then the warranty is void. If the equipment changes hands i.e. sold to another person or given to another family member to use or is used for another purpose. Then obviously we cannot guarantee that the new user will be using the equipment in the same way or for the same purpose originally sold. We cannot also guarantee that the new owner or user will be within the restrictions of use for anything dictated at point of sale or within the manufacturer’s guidelines and limitations i.e. how many hours used for, running, walking or jogging use. Nor are we able to ascertain in most instances if the user maintenance information has been passed on to the new user or owner or undertaken as instructed or the new user has even read a manual or visited our information service pages on our website. If it’s just another family member you’re adding to the list this is fine as long as you are happy on the limits of the machine and show the new user what to do. If unsure call us.

5. User maintenance

This does reflect heavily on the longevity and reliability of the product you purchase and is likely going to affect the warranty if not undertaken… go to the user maintenance section on our website, read and understand the specific user maintenance guide for your product… If you are unsure of anything call our service center or a store for advice. We know when it’s been done or not, so do your best to follow the advice from staff at point of sale and our user maintenance pages… again unsure call, we love to talk maintenance with customers… as those we talk to, rarely come through the doors of the service department.

This document is not the actual warranty, the document is to advise and put in to simple terms what our warranties cover and don’t cover and explains most things you will need to know.
